Our Club

Information

North Kildare Rugby has a rich history that reflects the passion and dedication of our members and coaches. Founded in 1928, located between the towns of Maynooth and Kilcock. Our club has blossomed into a thriving hub for rugby enthusiasts in the region. With a commitment to nurturing talent from grassroots to adult levels, we have built a reputation for excellence in sports instruction. We have produced many fine players that have made it to representative level teams, Leinster and Ireland.

We are part of a multi sports club, one of the few in Ireland. We have Hockey, Tennis, Cricket, Bowls, Bridge and Archery sections with in the club also. All under the name of North Kildare Sports Club.

Our youth coaching programs have seen countless young players develop their skills, build friendships, and foster a lifelong love for the game. The club's community spirit is enhanced by the support of our dedicated parents and volunteers, who play an invaluable role in creating a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels included. Over the years, we have celebrated numerous successes on the field, but it is the lasting friendships and memories made off the field that truly define our club's legacy.

Player Insurance

The executive committee would like to draw your attention to the details of player insurance each season. North Kildare R.F.C. retains insurance cover for players under the IRFU Player Insurance Scheme. This scheme covers club players for catastrophic injury only e.g. loss of limb, permanent disablement etc. The policy does not cover loss of earnings, medical expenses, accident and emergency visits or dental repair. It is therefore critical that all players or parents/guardians of players investigate their insurance options. The club recommends that players are covered by medical insurance from a recognised private medical insurer. Rugby is a collision sport and regrettably injuries can occur. North Kildare RFC is committed to providing a positive Rugby environment for all its members. This does not extend to financial support for medical bills. The compulsory IRFU Player Insurance Scheme costs the Club approximately €3,300 per team per annum. That is €115.00 per player p.a. in a match day squad of 20 players. North Kildare R.F.C.’s current playing subscription for Mini/Youth players is €125 and Seniors at €195  per annum. Unpaid playing subscriptions are not just a meaningless financial shortfall but are a significant annual expense.

Our history

The North Kildare Club is located at The Maws, which is between Maynooth and Kilcock. The Club offers a wide range of sports facilities to all ages andabilities. Formed in 1926, the club was orginally known as the North Kildare Tennis and Cricket Club. The rugby section is belived to have begun in 1928. Rugby had little impact untill the 1940’s. It was not untill 1954 that they won their 1st Towns cup and again in 1958. We setup the Colman Flynn Cup which was an annual ‘Sevens’ competion. This became a huge event in 60’ and 70’s with teams travelling from all over to play in. In 1973-74 we won the Towns plate and Anderson cup in the 70’s. In the 80’s NKRFC had a strong section winning and reaching many finals.

Our mins and Youth sections have produced some fine palyers some that have gone on to represent Leinster and Ireland. The most recent names , Devin Toner, Will Connors and Bob Casey. Our senior section consistes of 2 teams and a sometimes U20’s. Teams are made up of ex youths and schools youths who attended rugby playing schools for a period and also all new members coming to the Noth Kildare area.

“The coaching at North Kildare Rugby transformed my child's confidence and skills on the field. The environment is supportive, and the improvement is clear to see.”
